Repost from last thread: Somewhere, the Overlord of Macrominers is rubbing his hands together with glee. Why? Well...
CCP charges $15 or (random made-up figure) 250mil ISK for a timecard? Fine. The ISK-farmers will charge $15 for 275mil isk. Players buy from them and then use the isk for buying a timecard as it is (effectively) cheaper than buying direct from CCP as they're paying the same amount of RL cash but get some extra isk on top.
Everybody wins...except CCP and non-macrominers.

They'll possibly even ban offenders (buyer and seller) under the usual ebaying for ISK rules..?
Pretty much every single other MMOG has banned 3rd party "game cash for RL cash" sales, regularly take action against farmers...and yet they still go on.
CCP is basically handing a sizable chunk of what is now subscription money being paid to them over to the ISK-farmers. Not the greatest plan ever.

Originally by: Baji Core I do like this, but from a business perspective... huh? Is CCP really throwing away that money "for the good of the community?" I feel like something is being left out here.
The gametime will probably be fairly expensive, it will probably serve as an ISK sink as well, and deflation is probably important to CCP.
Deflation will become a lower priority the second that their subscription income drops below their targets. ;) Let's use hyperbole - what happens to CCP if 90% of the playerbase starts paying subs with ISK? Do you seriously think that they'll be happy to keep the game running on 1/10th their previous income?
Nope. Next up, a few months down the line, is the removal of ISK->timecards. It's the only logical assumption to make. |

Originally by: Craam Hustler Not everyone will be able to afford the time codes, and those that may want to keep their ISK might rather pay with $$$$
They might just quit. Or buy ISK from the black market. Neither of these is good for the game, or for CCP.

Originally by: Soulita Nice isk sink, good for slowing inflation, and people can not buy isk for RL cash anymore.
Yes they can - they just don't do it via time-card sales or within the EULA. Instead of the $15 (or whatever) going to CCP, it'll go to the ISK-farmer's bank account. Sure, they can (and will) ban people for it - that's what every MMOG developer says and does. They absolutely will not be able to prevent it, though.
Unless there's a second part of this announcement which reads something like "You will now be able to buy ISK directly from CCP with RL cash", this plan has an incredibly high chance of being very bad for the game. |

Originally by: Craam Hustler Yeah but if everyone gives all of their ISK to CCP to pay for a few months of codes everyone will run out of ISK and have to go back to $$$$
If spending a couple of days a month farming ISK is enough to pay for a month's subscription, nobody will run out of ISK. If it takes significantly more time than that, people will either turn to the black market RL cash->ISK trade, or just quit.
Either there is something more which we don't know yet (CCP selling isk for $$$, in-game advertising, whatever), or CCP have made what appears at the moment to be a poor decision. |

Edited by: Briana Flametop on 05/05/2007 00:32:09 Yeah, that's a point: T2 BPO's need to die at the same time as this change goes live.

Wtf is wrong with people that they miss the topic completely, start taking about other things, even t2 bpos. Get real, get on topic.
T2 BPO = significant ISK generator = playing EVE for free forever, probably for multiple characters. Not that difficult a concept, really. |

Originally by: Awox Adapt or die, I can't wait to see the day when all these morons who are broke in-game (it's too easy to make ISK these days) start buying ISK from ebay, with none of the RL money going to CCP (unlike how it works at the moment)
Fixed it for you.
